Things that can undermine the coherence and continuity of your attention:
- Excitation…the mind becomes agitated and distracted.
- Anger and fear
- Noisy, hectic environment can destabilize the mind
- Craving and misguided desires
The general symptoms of a mind prone to roving are dissatisfaction restlessness and anxiety.
We can try to stifle these unpleasant feelings by immersing ourselves in work, entertainment, talking or anything else that masks these symptoms, or we can address the source of such suffering by healing our imbalances through meditation and loving-kindness.
