“B” is for Breathe[This is a GREAT acronym to teach kids as well]
Take a One-Minute Breathing Space
S – Stop
When something happens that demands your attention or threatens you…STOP.
T – Take a breath (or 3, or 5…whatever time allows you)
Focus breathing in & out through your nose (if you can) and into the abdomen.
This technique is proven to reduce stress as it mimics the very relaxed breathing of sleep. Stress narrows your ability to think outside the box, so reducing your stress is paramount to making good choices.
O – Observe
What is really happening? … your thoughts, emotions, body reactions? STOP the auto-pilot.
P – Proceed
ACT…from a point of calmness, CHOOSING your action, instead of merely REACTING to a situation…letting someone else “pull your strings”…like a puppet. Proceed with awareness and kindness…for you and others.
